Trustfell 4: Trust Fall or Die Hard ([personal profile] trustwellness) wrote in [community profile] trusthell2017-01-22 12:35 am

Welcome.

You wake with the unshakable feeling that you shouldn't be here.

Perhaps you were in the middle of something, perhaps you weren't. Either way, you're waking up in an unfamiliar location with no recollection of how you got here. The room you've woken up in is sparsely-decorated, though that might be difficult to tell at first given how nice the beds are...but eventually you'll notice a few things that are a little...off. Maybe the scent is striking you wrong - it's clean, but it's not yours. Maybe your bed back home doesn't support your back in quite this way. Maybe you should be seeing sunlight through your window by now.

Maybe you should have a window in the first place.

This isn't right, but leaving the room won't give you any more answers. You might want to grab the silver key sitting on your trunk on the way out.

Don't worry though, you aren't all alone here. Once you step outside your room into the hallway, you'll notice that a few others are emerging from their rooms as well. It looks like they're just as confused and concerned as you are. Feel free to talk to them, but none of you know how exactly you wound up here and maybe some useful information can be found by exploring.

If you follow the hallway to its end (and it's a very long hallway), you'll eventually arrive in the foyer. You'll find some very interesting information about yourselves on the wall near the clock. Perhaps even more importantly, if you look on the other side of the multi-pendulumed thing, you'll find other framed information that you might want to pay attention to. It could very well be the key to escaping this strange place, after all. Don't worry if you forget the rules, you can find them in every room of the building.

Of course, search as you might, you won't find a doorway or a window of any sort. Getting out won't be so easy, it seems.

But who knows? Perhaps your fellow captives have something to say about all of this.

Welcome to Chronos University.

What about punching and clawing?

[ The woman behind him's energy seems drained too, mostly because, well, she had been running around all over all the halls and rooms she could find looking for an obvious exit. Might have punched a hall and hurt her hand for it. Either way, she's actually not much taller than him (only about two inches) but she's also surprised to see a man(?) who is shorter than her.

But her voice isn't as defiant as the statement would imply. Just tired and perhaps a bit petulant. ]
neverheardofhim: (let me tell you why you're a little bitc)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Not above trying that. [Speaking to someone his height, or at least close to it, was relieving for the dwarf. After running around with a seven-foot tall Qunari for the past few months, it was nice to not have to crane his neck.]

[Permanent neck damage wouldn't do well for his image.]

Maybe later though. I use these hands to make money, after all.

Well at least someone's game.

[ She was planning to do it herself... but it seems that isn't going to happen. The vampire lady sides, crouching down not specifically to put herself below his eye level, but more to adopt a pensive pose for her - her legs bowed and then putting her arms between them as she rocks on the balls of her feet ]

Not that I've found a good person to rip up yet.

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Let me know when you do? [A second glance at the rules on the wall had Varric falling quiet for a moment. He glanced back toward the woman, noting her curious pose with a quirked brow and a slight twitch of the mouth.]

As long as it isn't one of us, I mean. Not too found of the rules to this "academy." Especially not those.

[ One hand bracing herself on the ground, Elda's stress catches up with her - she brings her thumbnail to her mouth, biting it even as she forms her response ]

Yeah. [ She hums a little. If she thought it would work, she's far from above killing them ] Really complicated way to kill people, anyway! If they wanted you all dead should've just done it themselves!
neverheardofhim: (srs bsns)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily. [Possessing the mind of the writer meant that he was often dancing with complex scenarios, even if few of them made it to the page.] Might not want to get their hands dirty, or risk getting hurt themselves. I'm guessing you can hold your own? Well, same here.

So if they pit us against each other, they work their enemies down. At the end of it, they have to take out one of us, instead of 30.

[But then, that would imply that the thirty of them had a common enemy. And Varric had never seen Elda before in his life.]

Maybe not that...

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-22 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
But they were still good enough to lock all of us up in the first place!

[ Something she is still alarmed at ] So if they can do that while we're sleeping, then that's too cowardly!

[ Because someone that skillful, that powerful, that stealthy... to get her out from under her family.. ]

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
Trickery doesn't mean power. [But even he had to admit that their captors were talented, at least when it came to magic. Varric had been on his way out of a portal before waking up. That meant someone had to be strong enough to alter the rift for a split second, enough to allow him and only him through.]

[There were only a handful of people he knew of that were capable of altering the rifts in some way or another. He suspected that Elda knew none of them.]

Gotta say, this situation is more than a little bullshit.
matchbreaker: (So-So on this one tbh)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-22 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it doesn't, but power's power! [ Urrrgh, she finally starts to snap, her energy coming back enough for a short, frustrated fit of running her claws through her hair as she continues to rock in place ] Who's dumb enough to get past my whole family and get me before I even woke up, and who's tricky enough to pull it off?! The whole thing makes no sense!

[ Not to mention everyone else here. ]

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[An uneasy look spread over Varric's features, and he takes a slight step backward at Elda's outburst. He understood where she was coming from, but the manic nature of it all makes him, however briefly, fear for his safety.]

[The doubts go away as quickly as they come on, however, replaced by concern.]

We'll figure it out, alright, Fang? [Bad nicknames were a good idea when someone was stressed out, right?] Hell, I'll figure it out for you, and bring them straight to you for clawing up purposes.
matchbreaker: (Man did this one even turn out ok)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-22 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[ For a few more long seconds, Elda continues her little freak out, but manages to reign it in after a moment more, letting her hair fall over her face for a moment before springing (quite literally) back up to her feet. Given she's only barely taller than him the effect isn't quite as imperious as she could be, but her expression is more focused ]

A gentleman keeps his promises, you know. [ But that said... ] Don't count me out though, I might not be a detective, but I can pull my weight in figuring things out too.

[ . . . She might not have connected the "fang" thing yet ]
neverheardofhim: (the hawke smile tm)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Varric couldn't help but smile at her change of mood. Sure, he was a little put off by the whole thing, but he couldn't fault her for being a little unstable considering the whole situation.]

[At her comment of being a gentleman, Varric gave a little bow. No one he knew from back home would ever call him a gentleman. It was almost nice to hear.]

Consider my promise kept. [Gentleman or not, he wasn't a promise-breaker.] And consider yourself recruited to this investigatory clusterfuck. I'll be your host.

[He didn't have any practical experience, but he'd written a number of crime novels, all of which had been well-researched. If Donnen could solve a mystery, so could he.]
matchbreaker: (Ms Marvel!)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-22 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ You know, you might be some strange... small... man. Well, short. Stocky though.

Well, whatever. Elda brushes back her hair a little more to highlight it than anything before she extends a hand for the man. It's a little unclear if she intends to shake or something else, but based on the positioning, probably a shake ]

If we're working together, I should give my name, if you didn't read it on the wall. It's Elda Marker.
neverheardofhim: (shit eating grin)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll take that as a shake and grip her hand firmly. He'd read her name already, but that didn't mean they couldn't keep their manners. Hell, maintaining some amount of decency might just be what kept them from falling into the savagery that seemed to be expected of them.]

Varric. Varric Tethras. [He beamed up at the girl.] I'd kiss your hand like a proper gentleman, but that isn't really my thing.
matchbreaker: (Is annoying!)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-22 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll let it slide, I'm a married woman anyway.

[ . . . It's hard to tell if that was sarcasm or a genuine response. It really could go either way. All the same, smiling now, she met his handshake with her own, equally firm grip. Really, it's surprisingly strong for such a petite woman, but then her whole vibe has been anything but "small" up until now, so maybe not. ]

Alright, Varric, are you a detective?
neverheardofhim: (srs bsns)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-22 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'm a taken man. Doesn't mean I can't apologize over my lack of manners. [Nevertheless, Varric didn't stop smiling. He was comforted by the strength in her grip. With all these threats of murder and whatnot, it was good to know that, presumably, Elda could defend herself.]

[Of course, it also meant that she was capable of killing.]

Not quite. [Varric straightened up, sensing the perfect opportunity to talk about himself.] A writer, actually, and a damn good one. My first serial was about solving crimes. I figure that should help me out here.

[ She just smiles at that because, really, she'd said that mostly to allow him the out for politeness and gentlemanly behavior if he wanted it. And then he responded in the perfect way. Points.

Still, there's more important matters to attend to. ]

I always did wonder how people research for those sorts of books, like did they go interview killers and coppers for it?
neverheardofhim: (shit eating grin)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-23 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
[He's good at wriggling his way into people's hearts. Even the staunchest of soldiers have fallen in with him because of his ways and his writing.]

City guard and some assassins. Throw in a few mercenaries and sweet talk a few templars, and there you go.

[He's certainly warming up to Elda. She lets him talk about himself. Points.]
matchbreaker: (Captain Marvel)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-23 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I guess you would need to talk to some of those church people too, wouldn't you? [ Huff. She's a little sour at that idea, but pushes past it ] So did you hear anything about authors who lock people in doorless dungeon things?

[ Might as well see if he had oddly specific knowledge! ]
neverheardofhim: (srs bsns)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-23 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
You know Templars? [He quirked a brow at her, expression somewhat flat. He'd prided himself on staying relatively neutral when it came to the mages and templars, save for when Hawke injected herself to the fight. But even he felt an inkling of pity for anyone who got caught up with the worst of the bunch.]

'fraid not, Fang. But if I think of anyone, you'll be the first to know.
matchbreaker: (She-Hulk!)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-23 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
No, not personally. [ Or she'd've killed them ] But there were those sort of church-knight guys involved with the church and the inquisition back in the day.

[ admittedly in real history it should be before he time but Karin is silly ok</> ] Wait, so "Fang's" my name for you now?
neverheardofhim: (Da fuq)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-23 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Did you say Inquisition? [He's a bit too distracted by that to answer anything else.]
matchbreaker: (wait that's the wrong lyrics)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-23 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah? Crazy church guys, kills everyone who doesn't agree with them, brands people witches and demons?
neverheardofhim: (angery eyebrows)

[personal profile] neverheardofhim 2017-01-23 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
[There are some... unsavory parallels there, to say the least. Perhaps not to his Inquisition, but the first. Enough to make Varric glance away and shift uneasily.]

Where'd you say you came from, anyway?
matchbreaker: (Depression News)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-01-23 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Shihaba. [ Yeah that's - that's the name of it. ] Shihaba city, that is. It's in Japan, but all the Inquisition stuff was a long time ago back in Europe.

[ You know, where is this guy from... this is a good question. ]
